Pao,

I am assuming that you got the International version (European?) of the S2.

Docomo operates on ~800 MHz and 2100 MHz. Most of the international phones have support for 2100 MHz, but hardly any of them have support for 800 MHz. It is highly likely that your S2 being the international S2, also has the international radio (without the 800 MHz) support.

Now in Metropolitan areas, 2100 MHz is available, so probably your phone could connect easily. But in FOMA areas (typically countryside), the only signal available is for 800 MHz. In this case, since your phone does not support, it cannot connect.

Hi kizuki,i Belive you kind of right...in fact once out from the location of takaragawa the telephone started to work again!! That fact Was totally unaspected ..so certanely,as u said,is something to do with the network, but still is a mistery..I've checked the operative frequency of my old iPhone and are 850,1900,1200MHz and the Samsung ones are 850,900,1900,2100....strange don't u think??

It depends whether 850Mhz support is for GSM or WCDMA. Also, there is other technical stuff like channels etc and the fact that the Docomo FOMA is nearer to 800Mhz.

To summarize, most multi-band phones support 850 or 900 Mhz GSM.

However, WCDMA 800-850 Mhz is required for Docomo FOMA. iPhone is one of the very few international phones which supports this.

Hi kizuki sorry for late unswering u totally right !!im back to Italy at the moment and I can confirm that the mobile in question is fully working so your explanation was correct 100% ,thanks for advising and for competence u have in mobile networks ..paolo
