Permalink Reply by Dan Burgess on February 4, 2012 at 8:06pm Hi Doug,
>(for example, on my iPhone I can take a screenshot, but there doesn't seem to be a way of doing that on my Android - at least not a pre-installed way).
There are a few screenshot apps on the Android Market. I use Screen Grabber for my Motorola Photon (it was written for the Motorola Atrix). It may or may not work for you (or another app might).

It seems like most such apps, including that one, requires "rooting" the device. I'd rather not do that because I'm using it for testing for somebody and want to make sure everything is as "standard" as possible.

Permalink Reply by Dan Burgess on February 5, 2012 at 7:38pm My phone is not rooted, but possibly because the app was written with Motorola devices in mind, it works. I think there may be some other screenshot apps that work without rooting.
From ICS (4.0), taking screenshots is a native function, and some makers (HTC, Samsung, etc.) have already implemented this functionality on a few models (it is accessible by holding the power button for 2 sec., apparently it shows in the list of options).

I didn't actually try Screen Grabber. It just said rooting was needed in the app description.
Unfortunately this device is still on 2.3.3 and I don't see a way of upgrading it.

Well I tried it but it doesn't work on my phone. :(

Permalink Reply by Dan Burgess on February 6, 2012 at 9:16pm I see you have the LG Optimus, so maybe the following app will work (without rooting).
The trial version lets you take 14 screenshots, the pay version is 315 yen.
No guarantees, but it's worth a try.
