Strolled into Yodobashi Akiba at 10am, and there was no line, and no wait. Went right to the counter to buy, and walked out 20 minutes later with a black 3G 16gb.
When I checked back at 2pm this afternoon, all wifi models were sold out, but all 3G models were still in stock.
One down, 9 more to go!
How about availability anywhere?? ;)
I happened to pass by the Apple Store in Shibuya yesterday - ok, it wasn't actually a coincidence - and they said all they had in stock were some 3G units. I made a reservation (and had to pay!) for a 64GB wifi unit at the Bic Camera near my house over the weekend, but in typical Bic Camera fashion they had absolutely NO idea when they'd be getting some in. I was able to narrow it down to 'probably less than a month' but that's about as precise as they were able to get.
Anyway, does anyone actually have these things in stock?
Best case scenario would be 3 years from iPad launch, right? Three years is the longest exclusive agreement with regional carriers that Apple has signed (or at least as we know of).
The biggest indicator will be if NTT or AU doesnt get the iPhone 4S in September. That would seem to indicate that Softbank's agreement is the longest running exclusive Apple agreement in the world, and would probably mean that iPad3 and 4 would be locked to Softbank as well.
That would suck. Lots.
