I was in Tokyo for the big on Jan1, Fukushima for a decent heading north, and back Kobe where there was a shindo3 (in Wakayama) the other night. Yurekuru came through (a few seconds before each) but nothing from iOS5.. and yes, it's turned on ;-)
Anyone actually get an earthquake alert yet? Does that setting even work? (0_o)

I haven't turned that on yet, but got a call from a friend just before who said he got the earthquake warning on his Android.

You in the Kanto area? If you ever turn the feature on and actually *get* a message/notification, let me know eh.
I live in Kansai (not so much shaking lately) but was just in Tokyo/Tohoku for 3 weeks and got nothing.. And there was some shaking almost every day; Yurekuru was on it but nada from iOS.
skagit-
Confirm that you have earthquake warning turned on AND that you have selected Japanese language for iOS interface, AND you have location settings turned on.
It should be working if all of the above points are true.
Why does the Japanese language IOS interface need to be selected? The option also appears in the English interface.

Permalink Reply by skagit on January 27, 2012 at 4:20pm My friend has iOS5.0.1 in English, and the alerts sometimes work. Doesn't need to be in Japanese.
I stopped in the Softbank shop and asked them about it - the woman I talked to said Softbank were pretty late to the game with the EQ alerts and very few of their phones have it built in as well as it being flaky. Not just the iPhone. Sometimes they come, sometimes they come late, sometimes they don't come at all. Wonderful! She recommended I use Yurekuru for now. (>_<)
Permalink Reply by Norm Dancy on March 16, 2012 at 10:20am The earthquake alert on my iOS 5.1 iPhone 4S went off yesterday afternoon at the time of the earthquake but it was the first time I had seen or heard it so I was a little confused at first. Then I opened Yurekuro and it was overloaded and wouldn't provide any info.
I have yet to have the earthquake alert go off on my iPhone 4, running iOS 5.1.
I did get woken up at 4:20 this morning by the magnitude 5.2 earthquake in southern Saitama though.

Permalink Reply by Sonik on April 26, 2012 at 4:47pm This app used to work fine, but for some reason hasn't gone off for about half a year now. Never found out why. I don't recall any app updates. I had all my settings in English (iOS and the app itself). I know of a couple other people who have the same problem. We are in the Yokohama area, which I doubt has anything to do with it, but puzzled that this isn't as widespread as I would have expected. There's been a few big ones so would be happy to get that 5 second warning. I am going to re-install the app and see what happens.
