Hey guys,

I plan on calling SoftBank today to find out if they have any info about upgrade eligibility and/or pricing for the iPhone 4. I'll post what I find out here; if anyone else gets any information about this, please do the same. I'm sure I'm not the only 3GS owner looking to upgrade! Kinda thinking we're gonna have to bend over and grab our ankles, but you never know. Son & Co. might have something up their sleeves to keep us locked in for another 26 months ... heh.

Anyway, please share any pricing info you find. Thanks!

I've been waiting for this new iPhone to get my very first iPhone, so I would love to hear what Softbank says about pre-order, availability, pricing, etc. I've been to both the Softbank site and the Japan Apple Store, but no mention so far about the new iPhone. I'll call Softbank today too. If I find out anything worthwhile, I'll post it.
If it's anything like last time, then prepare to bend over. I still have a 3G only because it was impossible to upgrade to the 3GS being that I was paying off the device for two years. I would have had to pay the fees for the 3G on top of my 3GS (if I didn't I'd have to pay the inflated 8万 or whatever it was). Luckily my iPhone 3G payments are gonna end soon so I can just move on to the iPhone 4. The way Softbank does business here... it's like extorting you into a 2 year contract, less you pay an insane fee for the hardware.
I still have my iPhone 3G too. I decided not to upgrade to the 3GS because of all the extra payoffs. But now that I'm 16 months into this contract I might put up with a few man-en to upgrade.

Or.. shocking as the thought is... wait until February when this one is paid off and upgrade then. :)

The new phone does look nice though.

Just got off the phone with Softbank. They basically told me to go away. Well, they were nice about it, but said they knew nothing, and once they did know something, they'd put it on their homepage.
I still have a 3G model also... Got it on the first day (was it July 11th 2008?). Hope I can upgrade this month... I'd actually prefer to buy the phone outright this time, rather than pay in monthly installments, like we could with the iPad.

Wonder if this will be an option.
Why? You still have to sign up for two years contract regardless.
Because I have the money now and it will make my monthly payments just a bit less...Really tired of the 10000円 wireless bills (+ the 3000円 just added for my iPad!).
So the buzz on Twitter this morning is Masayoshi Son tweeting that 3G/3GS owners will get a discount on the iPhone 4. Just how much of a discount remains to be seen, of course, but still - good news.
Let's hope that he will give bigger discount to people with both 3G and 3GS. :)
Sure, but why stop there? I bought a 3G, two 3GSes, and an iPad on launch day. They practically owe me. Or "own" me, I guess ... ;)
I read that Softbank will begin accepting iPhone 4 preorders on June 15, so I'm guessing further pricing details should be available then. I googled "softbank iphone 4 june 15" at google.jp.

one example result:

2010/06/08 14:34 - Softbank To Take iPhone 4 Preorders From June 158 Jun 2010 ... TOKYO (NQN)--Softbank Mobile Corp. said Tuesday it will begin taking advance orders June 15 for Apple Inc.'s iPhone 4, a thinner version of ...

I certainly hope they figure out pricing before they start taking pre-orders ... ;)
