iPhone 4S: pricing, availability

Hey guys,

So, what do you think of today's announcements? I for one am pretty disappointed - I had been hoping for an iPhone 5 with a larger screen and redesigned body. That said, I'm looking forward to not having to be careful about how I hold my phone anymore (redesigned antenna) and with two little kids running around, the greatly improved camera will be most welcome.

Anyway, I thought it would be nice to keep pricing and availability info updated here. Any news?

Haven't seen anything yet in terms of pricing. The big question is how aggressive will KDDI be (if they end up releasing the 4S on October 14, which I have no doubt they will try to) and how SoftBank will have to react.

 

We'll probably learn more as the day rises in Tokyo and websites get updated.

Looks like au will indeed be selling on the 14th - Apple.jp says that preorders start on the 7th for both SoftBank and au. It's already on au's homepage, too, while SoftBank's iPhone information still shows the 3GS and iPhone 4, with no new information about the "S." I hate how slow they are in releasing information to the public! :(

My wife went to the AU shop (two of them, actually) today to put her name on the list.  No list.  No info.  The stores actually told her that they knew that sales were "supposed" to start on 10/14 but they haven't gotten any info from corporate.

As much as I would like to switch away from SoftBank and their shitty network, I have two concerns.  AU's download speeds could actually be worse that SB until AU upgrades the network in early 2012.  And roaming charges, especially international data.

Maybe the shops will be getting some info...

Bizarre, isn't it? These Japanese mobile phone companies still don't know what's going on - on the eve of the product launch and/or pre-order campaign. Are they just that poorly managed? I mean, it's the same thing every year. Heck, SoftBank didn't even know if I'd get my pre-ordered iPhone 4 on launch day last year at 13:00. On launch day! Talk about a WTF experience.

Cool, thanks. Just got off the phone with SoftBank and was told Masayoshi Son will make the iPhone 4S announcement at 12:30.

Just completed two pre orders for 4s, upgrading from a 3G and a 3Gs.

Procedure was quick and painless.

Now the waiting begins .......................
