Hi Doug, >(for example, on my iPhone I can take a screenshot, but there doesn't seem to be a way of doing that on my Android - at least not a pre-installed way). There are a few screenshot apps on the Android Market. I use Screen Grabber for…

Why does the Japanese language IOS interface need to be selected? The option also appears in the English interface. doug

Some things I like better in Android (from an iPhone user)

Thumbnail
As an iPhone user, I just recently (like last week) got an Android to use for testing web apps. I wasn't going for the "latest and greatest" so bought an inexpensive, contract-free LG Optimus Bright new off of an auction site. I wasn't really expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised (http://douglerner.com/lg-optimus-bright-l-07c-first-impressions).I've been using it a bit this past week, and there are definitely…See More

Anybody familiar with the DoCoMo LG Optimus Bright L-07C

Thumbnail
In June, DoCoMo started selling the LG Optimus Bright L-07C:http://www.lg-optimus.jp/pc/l-07c/spec/spec.htmlApparently it's a "so-so" model with reasonable but not knock-your-socks-off specs. Apparently it didn't get a lot of attention. It does run Android 2.3 though, has a 4" screen, 480x800 pixels and a 5 Mpixel camera. Some people say it is basically the LG Optimus Black repackaged for Japan:…See More

Yes, you can use a Japanese-bought iPad overseas. And you can use an overseas-bought iPad in Japan, if you can get a SIM card for it. The iPads are not carrier locked (though there is talk that they are carrier locked just within Japan, between…

I was just about to ask the same question. How can they say it is "unlimited at 1,980 yen/day" and then say it's up to 2,980 yen/day if you exceed 25 MB?   doug

Thats great. Will there any problems with a foreigner like me purchasing an unlocked contract-less 3g 32gmodel? Do I have to pre-order etc??

I've never actually heard of jailbreaking going bad, so not too dangerous. Just make sure you only use apps from blog.iphone-dev.org.

From what I've read about Visual Voicemail, it uses your data connection to download new messages so you won't be charged as long as you're not worried about about data usage. I could be wrong about this though, so check first. Also, if you do find out, please post about it!

Hi Doug,

You can get audio/vibrate notifications of new SoftBank email by jailbreaking and using SBankNotify.

Visual Voicemail is ¥300 a month and isn't turned on by default. You need to speak to SoftBank to get it turned on. More about it here and here.
